What is Your Story?
Imagine it is ten years from today, and there is a person that you don't know standing in front of you. This person begins telling you everything they have done in their life - both good and bad. While they are telling you this, you get a sense of nostalgia, but you can't distinguish why until you realize that this is the story of your life. Every little detail matches the very chapters of your own book. Now, I want you to look at this person and the story they just told you. Are you proud of them? Think carefully about your answer. Do you feel as though they could have done better? Do you feel compassion towards them? What is it about their story that bothers you? What if I told you that was the person you were ten years ago? How do you feel now? You see, in life we grow up, we change, and we adapt to the world around us. If someone from the past came up to me and told me every detail of my life, I wouldn't believe that the girl standing before me was who I was ten years prior. I feel as though in life, we don't realize how much we have changed until someone brings up a memory from high school, or you listen to your favorite song from when you were a child. We don't tend to realize how slow yet fast time can be for us. We don't realize how much time has passed until we talk about freshman year of high school like it was yesterday, but we are actually crossing the college stage in a week. My whole point of this post is to ask you this very question, "If you were told the story of your life right now, would you be proud of the life you have lived?" In the wise words of Donna from Mamma Mia, "Life is short. The world is wide. I want to make some memories." So here is what I will say to you: stop living your life in fear of the negative. Be bold with your actions, and don't be too harsh on yourself. Stand up for what you believe in, even if this means it might upset some people. I want you to be to person that you would want to spend the rest of your own life with because I hate to spoil it for you. but you are that person. Our time on this earth is too short to live in regret and anxiety. You know, I wish someone would have told me this back when I was in high school. I feel like I would have made more memories, more moments to look back on and laugh at. Who knows, maybe I will say the same thing ten years from now about college. However, my whole message here is to tell you that you are the writer of your own book. You create, design, and finish it. Don't you want to be able to read it without wanting to rip the pages out? Don't let time slip through your fingers anymore because before you know it, you're going to miss the chances you didn't take. So, I will leave you with this: Imagine it is ten years from today, and there is a person that you don't recognize in front of you. This person begins telling you everything they have done in their life - both good and bad. This person is the younger version of yourself. What is their story?
